My Story

I have always loved food, cooking, creating new recipes with friends, and sharing meals with family and friends. When I learned how the nutrients from our diet can influence our psychological health while studying psychology, I decided I had to learn more. I dedicated my academic career to learning more about nutrition and the impacts on health, gut microbiota and the complex network of communication between our gut, brain and immune system. I believe our dietary patterns are the foundation for our overall wellness.

I grew up in Niagara Falls, NY. I attended Buffalo State College and began my college career studying education and psychology. It was after moving to San Diego, CA in 2005, that I decided to study nutrition with the goal of becoming a registered dietitian. I graduated from San Diego State University with a B.S. in Food and Nutrition Science, completed my dietetic internship at the University at Buffalo, and became a registered dietitian.

Working as a server at a fine dining restaurant in La Jolla, California during my time at SDSU is where my knowledge of different foods, spices and cooking techniques expanded. I became much more creative when it came to experimenting with ingredients and modifying recipes. I also worked as a research assistant on various projects and volunteered in the community in San Diego in a variety of settings working with diverse populations.

I continued my education at the University at Buffalo and completed a Masters Degree in Nutrition with a thesis. My research involved diet interventions with people with Multiple Sclerosis and potential effects on hormones, fatigue and hunger. I worked one on one with patients at Bennett Rehabilitation Institute, a physical therapy clinic specializing in neurologic rehabilitation. I have recently joined Buffalo Nutrition and Dietetics PLLC, a wonderful group of Integrative and Finctional Registered Dietitians. I am an active member of my local dietetic association, serving as the reimbursement chair for the 2018-2020 years. I am also a member of the Dietitians in Integrative and Function Medicine practice group.
